Short history of the Wandoan Pharmacy

We’ve found some old photos of the Wandoan Pharmacy in the early days that may be of interest!

The pharmacy was opened in Royds Street, Wandoan in 1957 by Mr Don Chenhall at the shop now occupied by the hairdresser salon owned by Nancy Davies. Don was a soldier settler and in 1954 owned the property called “Coolibah” where he lived with his wife Margaret and family.

Eventually, Don sold the business to Mr Les Cadzow who moved the pharmacy to one half of new premises at 34 Royds Street. The other half of the building was occupied by the Hopgood plumbing business. Do you remember Bud Ford’s dental torture chamber on the vacant block next door?

Les continued the business there till the end of 1968 when he sold it to me.

I graduated from the University of Queensland and began my career as a community pharmacist.

After a few years, I expanded into the other half of the building as a gift shop, and in 2006 the pharmacy was moved again to new premises with modern fit-out just next door at 36 Royds St, Wandoan, where you can find us today.
