PROBIOTICS

Recently we received a lot of questions about probiotics. So we thought we tell you the most important details and introduce you to our available products. We even have prepared a PDF information for you, find more information about it below.

Things you should know about Probiotic

What are Probiotics?
“Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.Probiotics are naturally found in your body. You can also find them in some foods and supplements.”(http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/features/what-are-probiotics)

“The human gastrointestinal tract is home to more than 400 bacterial species both beneficial and harmful. The normal flora includes a variety of microorganisms, when they overgrow they may become harmful. This overgrowth can occur due to reduced levels of competitive organisms (beneficial bacteria).” (Source: Probiotics Guide, Ethical Nutrients)

What are they good for?

Probiotics help move food through your gut and may assist in maintaining the balance of good bacteria. Researchers are still trying to figure out which are best for certain health problems. Some common conditions they treat are:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Infectious diarrhea (caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites)
  • Antibiotic-related diarrhea

There is also some research to show they help with problems in other parts of your body. For example, some people say they have helped with:

  • Immunity
  • Skin conditions, like eczema
  • Urinary and vaginal health
  • Preventing allergies and colds
  • Oral health
How do you choose the best probiotic?
For optimal therapeutic results, we recommend probiotics which contain not only scientifically validated strains, but also a scientifically validated dose of live organisms.
Do I need to keep them in the fridge?
You only need to keep them in the fridge if the packaging tells you to.

Conditions that can kill bacteria are temperature fluctuations, light and moisture. Probiotics which need to be kept in the fridge need therefore a controllable and stable environment like a fridge.
Some manufacturers offer fridge free probiotics. Most of them have a scientifically validated dose of live organisms as well, through new technology.

Should I take my probiotics while I’m on antibiotics or should I wait till the course is finished?
Yes you can, if you allow a few hours between the oral intake.
